You can store nuts in canning jars by dry-heating them in the oven. Fill the jars with shelled nuts, then heat them at 70°C (158°F) for ten minutes without lids and another ten minutes with the lids resting loosely on top. After removing the jars, tighten the lids firmly. Nuts stored this way will not become stale or moldy and will keep in good condition for several years, which is especially useful in years with a poor harvest.

Instructions
Tip: tap a step to mark it as done.
Fill the jars with nuts. Place the filled jars in the oven and turn it on to 70°C (158°F).
Leave the jars in the oven for 10 minutes. Then place the lids on top without tightening them, and return the jars to the oven for another 10 minutes.
Remove the jars from the oven, tighten the lids firmly, and put the jars away for storage.
Tip: You can also dry-heat the nuts in a microwave. Place the open jars in the microwave and heat 2 jars for 2.5 minutes on full power.
Use a kitchen towel to remove the jars, tighten the lids, and turn the jars upside down. Once cool, put them away for storage.
Tip: Use only thoroughly dried nut kernels, and discard any darkened or moldy pieces beforehand. Store the sealed jars in a cool, dark place, as light and warmth make nuts turn rancid sooner.
