Family cookbook: save Grandma’s handwritten recipes
A gift for Christmas
Take a photo of a page from your recipe notebook. We turn it into a clear recipe you can edit, and from your recipes you can print your own book – a perfect Christmas gift.
Free. We use the photo only for the transcription and do not store it.
Photo transcription is for signed-in readers
Sign in with Google, Apple or your e-mail – no password needed. You can type recipes without signing in.
Take a photo
A phone and daylight are enough – old handwriting and old units are fine.
Check the transcription
We write out the ingredients and method and convert old European units to grams and milliliters.
Print the book
Your family recipes and favorite recipes from this site become a PDF book.
How it works
My family cookbook
No recipes yet. Photograph the first notebook page or type a recipe.
Print your own book
A cover with your family name, a table of contents and every recipe on its own page – even with a photo of the original handwriting. Print it at home or at a copy shop.
In the print window choose “Save as PDF”, or print the book straight away.
Frequently asked questions
What happens to the photo?
We use the photo only to transcribe the recipe and do not store it. The transcription is done by OpenAI, which does not use the photo for training and keeps it for at most 30 days for abuse monitoring. Your recipes are saved only in your browser – nobody else can see them.
Can it read old handwriting?
It reads most handwriting and converts old European units such as decagrams to grams. Always check the result – we highlight the places the transcription was not sure about.
How do I print the book?
Click Create the PDF book and choose Save as PDF in the print window. Print it at home or at a copy shop.
Will my recipes disappear when I close the browser?
No, they stay in this browser. They won’t be on another phone or after you clear your browser data, so save the book as a PDF too.
Why do I need to sign in to transcribe a photo?
Photo transcription is free for you but costs us something, so every account has a daily limit. You can type recipes and print the book without signing in.
