Chicken breasts with baked potatoes and smoked cheese make a Sunday lunch with meat and a side dish that are prepared separately but complement each other. The chicken breasts marinate in eggs, sour cream, garlic, and paprika for at least two hours, ideally overnight, before being coated in flour, fried, and topped with smoked cheese. The side dish combines shredded potatoes with onion and butter, topped with sour cream and breadcrumbs and baked at 180 °C (350 °F). The recipe serves six.

Instructions

Tip: tap a step to mark it as done.

  1. Make the marinade in a large bowl: whisk together the eggs, sour cream, crushed garlic, paprika, salt, and pepper. Trim the chicken breasts, add them to the marinade, and let marinate for at least 2 hours, preferably overnight.

  2. Coat the marinated chicken breasts in flour, fry in hot sunflower oil, and sprinkle with shredded smoked cheese.

For the side dish, shred the potatoes and season with salt and pepper. Add the sliced onion, smoked cheese, and butter.

  3. Grease a baking dish with oil or butter and add the potato mixture. Pour the sour cream over it, sprinkle with breadcrumbs, and bake in an oven preheated to 180 °C (350 °F) for approximately 45 minutes, until the potatoes are tender and the top is golden.

Tip: Let the marinade drain off the chicken breasts before coating them in flour so the flour does not clump into a thick crust and fall off during frying. Marinate the chicken breasts in the refrigerator.
