This creamy garlic soup is a thick, cream-based soup served right in hollowed-out bread bowls. Crushed garlic and onion are seasoned with sage, salt, pepper, and parsley, then covered with boiling water and vegetable bouillon. Cooking cream, sour cream, and beaten egg are stirred in at the end, and the soup is simmered until thickened. Bread toasted in a skillet with garlic makes a good accompaniment. Serves four.

Instructions
Tip: tap a step to mark it as done.
Press the garlic cloves into a pot and add the finely chopped onion. Season with pepper, salt, a pinch of crushed sage, and parsley.
Pour in the boiling water and add the vegetable bouillon. Simmer briefly, then stir in the cooking cream, sour cream, and beaten egg.
Simmer the soup until thickened. Cut the tops off the loaves and hollow them out, leaving walls about 1 cm thick. Pour the hot soup into the bread bowls and serve immediately.
Tip: Toast bread with garlic in a skillet to serve with the soup.
Tip: Briefly toast the hollowed-out loaves and their cut-off tops in the oven to firm up the crust so the soup won't soak through the bread as quickly. Toast the scooped-out bread to make croutons.
