This cake features thin layers of sour cream and butter dough joined with a caramel filling. The dough is divided into three layers: two are sandwiched with a filling of caramelized sweetened condensed milk, butter, and toasted walnuts, while the third is baked and crushed into crumbs. The crumbs and walnuts are baked on top, and the cooled cake is decorated with grated dark chocolate.

  1. Warm the butter until softened. Beat the eggs with the sugar until the sugar dissolves, then combine with the sour cream and butter.

  2. Add the flour and baking soda and work into a dough. Refrigerate for half an hour. Divide into 3 pieces and roll each into a thin rectangle. Prick the first layer in several places with a fork.

  3. Bake the first layer at 200 °C (400 °F) for 20 minutes and let cool slightly. Bake the third layer the same way, let cool, then crush into crumbs with a rolling pin and set aside. Meanwhile, mix the filling ingredients together, add the walnuts, and spread the filling over the first layer.

Cover with the second layer, sprinkle the remaining walnuts and the crumbs from the third layer over the top, and bake for another 10 minutes. Let the cake cool, then sprinkle with the grated dark chocolate.

Tip: If you don't have cooked sweetened condensed milk, use canned caramelized sweetened condensed milk instead—it tastes the same and saves several hours of cooking.
