This old-fashioned shredded potato and smoked meat bake is similar to potato pancakes, but it cooks all at once on a baking sheet. Mix coarsely shredded potatoes with diced smoked meat, garlic, pepper, marjoram, flour, and milk. Spread the mixture on a baking sheet greased with lard and bake for half an hour at 220 °C (425 °F), then another 30 minutes at 200 °C (400 °F). A baking sheet gives it a crispier bottom than a baking dish. This recipe serves six.

Instructions
Tip: tap a step to mark it as done.
Peel the potatoes and coarsely shred them into a large bowl. Add the meat, finely chopped or pressed garlic, salt, pepper, and marjoram. Mix well and drain off any excess liquid as needed.
Finally, stir in the flour and milk, then spread the mixture on a baking sheet greased with lard.
Tip: Use a baking dish if you prefer, but the bottom will not be as crispy.
Bake in an oven preheated to 220 °C (425 °F) for 30 minutes. When a golden, crispy crust starts to form, reduce the temperature to 200 °C (400 °F) and bake for approximately 30 more minutes.
Let the baked potatoes rest for 15 minutes before slicing. Serve with sauerkraut or a pickle.
Tip: Grease the baking sheet generously with lard, including around the edges—the potatoes will fry underneath almost like pancakes in a skillet, giving them a crispy bottom.
