Tribitka are Slovak cake bars with three layers of filling: a thin cocoa cake is topped with buttery vanilla pudding cream, a layer of cookies, caramel cream made with cooked sweetened condensed milk and butter, and a chocolate glaze.

The condensed milk is cooked in its sealed can for 2½ hours the day before, so the bars are prepared over two days.

Instructions

Tip: tap a step to mark it as done.

  1. Cook the caramel the day before

Boil the unopened can of sweetened condensed milk in a pot of water for 2½ hours, keeping it completely submerged the entire time. Let it cool completely and open it only when cold. Alternatively, use ready-made caramelized condensed milk.

  2. Bake the cake

Mix all the cake ingredients together, pour into a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, and bake in a preheated oven at 180°C (350°F) for about 10 minutes. Let cool.

  3. Make the pudding cream

Cook the Zlatý klas pudding mix with the vanilla sugar and milk to make a pudding, then let cool. Beat the butter with the powdered sugar, then mix in the cooled pudding.

  4. Make the caramel cream

Beat the butter, then gradually beat in the cooled caramelized condensed milk.

  5. Assemble the layers

Spread the pudding cream over the cake, arrange the cookies on top, and spread with the caramel cream. Melt the chocolate with the Cera, sugar, and cocoa powder, then pour over the cake. Refrigerate until set.

Tip: Let the glaze made with Cera set just until it is no longer sticky, then score it with a knife to mark the portions. If it sets completely, it will crack when sliced.
