Macocha cake bars bake all at once: pour cooked vanilla pudding over plain and cocoa batters, swirl it with a fork, and bake everything for about 30 minutes. Once cooled, spread the cake with sour cream mixed with vanilla sugar and sprinkle with a grated Margot chocolate bar.

There is no need to whip or cook the topping; simply let the cake set in the refrigerator.

Instructions

Tip: tap a step to mark it as done.

  1. Cook the pudding

Cook the milk, pudding mix, and sugar into a pudding and let cool. Stir occasionally to prevent a skin from forming.

  2. Prepare the batter

Beat the egg yolks with the sugar. Add the water, oil, and flour mixed with the baking powder. Beat the egg whites with a pinch of salt until stiff, then gently fold them into the batter. Pour half the batter into a greased and floured baking pan. Stir the cocoa powder into the remaining batter and pour it over the plain batter.

  3. Bake with the pudding

Pour the pudding over the batter and use a fork to make waves in it, starting at the edge. Bake at 180 °C (350 °F) for about 30 minutes, then let cool.

  4. Finish the cake

Mix the sour cream with the vanilla sugar and spread over the cooled cake. Grate the Margot chocolate bar over the top and refrigerate the cake until set.

Tip: Pour the pudding over the batter while it is lukewarm and still pourable, as it would be difficult to spread once set. Chill the Margot bar in the refrigerator before grating so the shavings stay loose and do not stick together.
