This homemade Nutella-style cocoa and nut spread is a simple sweet cream you can cook from everyday ingredients in about 25 minutes. Gradually mix the sugar, cocoa powder, and flour with the milk to prevent lumps, then cook over low heat. Toast the nuts and grind them in a coffee grinder or small blender, then stir them into the cream along with the butter. Cook until it reaches the consistency of sour cream. Making it at home costs less than buying a jar of spread.

Instructions

Tip: tap a step to mark it as done.

  1. Mix the sugar, cocoa powder, and flour in a bowl. Slowly pour in the milk, stirring constantly to prevent lumps.
  2. Cook the mixture over low heat, stirring constantly. Shell the nuts, toast them, and grind them in a coffee grinder or small blender.
  3. Add the butter and ground nuts to the cream. Continue stirring over low heat until it thickens to the consistency of sour cream.
  4. Check the cream, pour it into a container with a lid, and refrigerate.

Tip: Let the toasted nuts cool before grinding them; while warm, they would clump into an oily paste in the grinder. The refrigerated spread is easier to spread after it sits out for a little while.
