Make sweetened condensed milk at home with three ingredients: milk, granulated sugar, and a little butter. Bring the mixture to a boil, then boil for exactly ten minutes, preferably in a tall-sided pot because it foams vigorously. It will still be thin after cooking, but it thickens gradually and reaches the right consistency after several hours in the refrigerator. Use it in cream fillings, baked goods, sweet buns, and cakes.

Instructions
Tip: tap a step to mark it as done.
Place all the ingredients in a pot, preferably one with tall sides, as the mixture will foam vigorously. Bring to a boil over low heat.
Increase the heat until the mixture boils, then boil for exactly 10 minutes. It will foam considerably. After 10 minutes, the mixture will still be very thin; this is normal.
Let the mixture thicken gradually as it cools. Pour it into a bottle and refrigerate, where it will continue to thicken for several hours.
Allow just 15 minutes to prepare the homemade sweetened condensed milk itself.
Tip: While the mixture boils, stir with a wooden spoon, reaching all the way to the bottom, since the milk and sugar can easily stick. If the foam rises toward the rim of the pot, lower the heat but keep the mixture boiling.
