Pork chops baked in light beer are a quick oven dish, with the meat becoming tender in beer with garlic, onion, and thyme. Simply season the chops with salt, pepper, and dried thyme, place them in a baking dish with halved garlic cloves and sliced onion, and add the beer. Bake covered with foil for 35–40 minutes at 190–200 °C (375–400 °F). You can use red wine or cream instead of beer. The recipe serves four.

Instructions
Tip: tap a step to mark it as done.
- Season both sides of the pork chops with salt, pepper, and thyme.
- Place the chops in a baking dish greased with the oil. Add the halved garlic cloves and sliced onion. Pour in the beer, or red wine if using, and cover with aluminum foil.
- Bake at 190–200 °C (375–400 °F) for 35–40 minutes, until the meat is tender. Test for tenderness with a fork.
- Remove the foil and bake for another 10 minutes to brown the meat. Serve with potatoes and braised cabbage, the usual accompaniments.
Tip: Pour the beer around the edge of the baking dish rather than directly over the chops so it does not wash off the salt and thyme. Before serving, spoon the pan juices, flavored with beer, garlic, and onion, over the chops.
