Baked apples stuffed with walnuts, honey, and raisins are a simple fall dessert—prep takes 15 minutes, and the oven does the rest. Remove the cores, fill the cavities with walnuts, honey, and cinnamon, top with a little butter, and bake for about half an hour at 180 °C (350 °F), until tender. Serve warm with the pan juices, whipped cream, or vanilla ice cream.

Instructions

  1. Prepare the apples

Preheat the oven to 180 °C (350 °F). Wash the apples and slice off the tops with the stems attached. Use a knife and a small spoon to scoop out the cores, leaving the bottoms intact to create cavities for the filling.

  2. Mix the filling

Coarsely chop the walnuts and mix them with the raisins, honey, cinnamon, and lemon juice.

  3. Stuff the apples

Stand the apples in a baking dish, fill the cavities with the filling, and top each with a piece of butter. Replace the apple tops and pour 4 tbsp water into the dish.

  4. Bake

    30 min

Bake at 180 °C (350 °F) for 25–35 minutes, depending on the size and variety of the apples, until tender—a skewer should slide through easily and the skins should begin to split.

  5. Serve

Let the apples rest briefly, then serve warm with the juices from the baking dish spooned over them. Whipped cream or vanilla ice cream makes a good accompaniment.

Tip: Firm, tart apple varieties work best for baking; soft apples will fall apart. To keep the skins from splitting, lightly score them all the way around the middle of each apple before baking.
