Instructions

Tip: tap a step to mark it as done.

  1. Prepare the oven and baking dish

Preheat the oven to 190 °C (375 °F), using conventional (top and bottom heat). Have ready a baking dish approximately 22 × 22 cm and at least 5 cm deep.

  2. Season the fruit

Cut the peeled and cored apples and pears into approximately 2 cm pieces. In a bowl, toss them with the lemon juice, 20 g sugar, cornstarch, and 2 g cinnamon. Spread the fruit in the baking dish.

  3. Make the crumble topping

Mix the rolled oats, flour, remaining 40 g sugar, 2 g cinnamon, and salt. Add the cold butter, cut into cubes. Work it in with your fingertips until uneven crumbs and small clumps form.

  4. Bake

Sprinkle the crumble topping evenly over the fruit without pressing it down. Bake in the center of the oven at 190 °C (375 °F) for approximately 35–40 minutes, until the top is golden and the fruit juices are visibly bubbling around the edges. A piece of apple should be soft when pierced.

  5. Let rest

Let rest for 10 minutes before serving. This resting time is included in the recipe's total time. Serve while still warm; the filling stays soft, so scoop out portions with a spoon.

Tip: Store leftover crumble covered in the refrigerator and reheat it in the oven rather than the microwave so the topping crisps up again.
