Braised chicken legs with chickpeas are a one-pot meal: brown the chicken until golden, then braise it in tomato sauce with onion, garlic, paprika, and cumin. Add the canned chickpeas near the end so they don't turn mushy. Serve with bread or couscous to soak up the sauce.

Brown the chicken
10 minPat the chicken legs dry with a paper towel and season with salt and pepper. Heat the oil in a wide pot or Dutch oven. Brown the chicken skin-side down for about 5 minutes, then turn and cook for 3 minutes on the other side. Transfer to a plate.
Make the sauce
5 minFinely chop the onion and cook it in the pan drippings until translucent. Add the chopped garlic, paprika, and cumin and stir briefly. Add the tomatoes and broth and bring to a boil.
Braise
45 minReturn the chicken to the pot skin-side up, cover, and simmer over low heat for 35 minutes. Add the drained and rinsed chickpeas and simmer uncovered for another 10 minutes, until the sauce thickens slightly and the meat pulls away from the bone.
Serve
Adjust the seasoning with salt and pepper and sprinkle with parsley. Serve with bread or couscous.
Tip: For crispier skin, place the chicken in an oven-safe pot in a preheated oven at 220 °C (425 °F) for 10 minutes at the end of cooking.
