This homemade Monte-style chocolate pudding and hazelnut dessert is an inexpensive version of the popular dairy dessert to make for the whole family. The dark layer is made by melting dark baking chocolate in milk and thickening it with chocolate pudding mix. Ground hazelnuts are stirred in, followed by whipped butter once the mixture has cooled. The light layer is sour cream mixed with vanilla sugar. Preparation takes about 20 minutes, and the recipe serves four.

Instructions

Tip: tap a step to mark it as done.

  1. Add 1 tbsp powdered sugar to 400 ml milk. Break all the dark baking chocolate into pieces and add it to the milk. Heat, stirring constantly, until the chocolate melts.
  2. Stir the pudding mix into the remaining milk, then pour it into the warm chocolate mixture. Cook, stirring constantly, until thickened.
  3. Stir in the ground hazelnuts and cook briefly. While the mixture cools, whip the butter, then stir it into the cooled chocolate cream.
  4. In another bowl, mix the sour cream with the vanilla sugar to make the light cream. Layer the light and dark creams.
  5. Spoon a layer of light cream into the bottom of a glass, followed by the dark hazelnut cream and then another layer of light cream. Alternate the layers until the glass is full, then refrigerate the dessert until chilled.

Tip: Let the sour cream and vanilla sugar stand for a few minutes, then stir again so the sugar dissolves and the light cream is not grainy. Spoon the layers into the glasses gradually rather than adding them all at once, so they do not mix.
