These soy-garlic chicken skewers are a homemade alternative to kebabs: thread chicken breast strips onto skewers and marinate for at least two hours in oil, soy sauce, garlic, cilantro, sugar, and a pinch of ground chili.

They bake in about 20 minutes at 200 °C (400 °F). Soak wooden skewers in water beforehand to keep them from burning.

Tip: tap a step to mark it as done.

  1. Prepare the skewers

Soak wooden skewers in water for about 30 minutes. Cut the chicken breasts into long strips and thread them onto the skewers.

  2. Marinate

Mix the oil with the soy sauce, crushed garlic, sugar, cilantro, ground chili, salt, and pepper. Coat the skewers in the marinade, cover, and refrigerate for at least two hours.

  3. Bake

Preheat the oven to 200 °C (400 °F). Transfer the skewers to a baking dish and bake for about 20 minutes.

Tip: Thread the strips onto the skewers in an accordion pattern to keep the meat from curling and help it cook evenly. Turn the skewers halfway through baking.
