Traditional Slovak Christmas cookies

The cookies and baking that belong to Christmas in Slovakia: vanilla crescents, Linzer cookies, soft honey cookies, Bratislava crescents, bear paw cookies, beehive cookies, Ischler cookies, šuhajdy chocolate cups and rum balls. The holiday table also has vianočka, a braided raisin bread, and poppy seed and nut rolls.

They are not all baked at once. Bake honey cookies in early December so they have time to soften, dry cookies about ten days before Christmas Eve, no-bake balls a few days before the holidays and the braided bread just before. The Christmas baking planner puts the dates and one shopping list together for you. More old recipes are in Grandma’s recipes, and everything is in Christmas cookies and baking.
