Kinder-style wafer bars with powdered milk are a no-bake dessert made with wafer sheets and layers of milk and chocolate cream. The cream is made by beating butter with powdered milk and warm sugar syrup, then mixing melted chocolate into half of it. The hands-on work takes about fifteen minutes, but the wafers then need to rest overnight under a weight. The next day, cut them into neat bars with a sharp knife.

Instructions
Tip: tap a step to mark it as done.
Cook the water and sugar into a syrup. Beat the butter until fluffy, add the powdered milk, and pour in the warm syrup in a thin stream. Beat thoroughly and divide the mixture into two equal portions.
Add the melted chocolate to one portion and beat briefly with a mixer to combine.
Spread the chocolate mixture over the first wafer sheet, cover with the second wafer sheet, and spread the milk mixture over it. Place the last wafer sheet on top, weigh it down, and let rest overnight. Cut with a sharp knife and serve.
Tip: Spread the cream right away while it is warm and soft; it thickens as it cools, which could cause the wafers to break when spreading. Weigh them down with a flat board so the bars are an even thickness throughout.
