This mild cheese spread for kids combines 150 g of finely grated Edam, 200 g of quark (farmer's cheese), plain yogurt and a little butter. It contains no garlic or onion and needs no added salt—the cheese provides the salty flavor.
It takes 10 minutes to mix, then thickens in the refrigerator for 15 minutes. It makes enough for about 12 slices of bread or 6 bread rolls. Unlike carrot spread with quark, its base is cheese rather than carrots.

Instructions
Tip: tap a step to mark it as done.
Grate the cheese
5 minGrate the cheese using the finest holes of a grater. Finely grated cheese blends more evenly into the quark, making the spread smoother.
Mix the spread
5 minUse a fork to mix the quark with the yogurt and softened butter until smooth. Add the cheese, chives and paprika and mix well. Taste; extra salt usually isn't needed.
Chill
15 minCover the spread and refrigerate for 15 minutes to thicken.
Serve
Spread on bread, crescent-shaped bread rolls or whole-grain rolls. Store in a sealed container in the refrigerator and use within 2 days.
Tip: For a snack, pack the spread in a separate container and add a piece of bell pepper or cucumber alongside the bread. For adults, you can mix in a clove of pressed garlic.
