Baked bolognese pasta with ground meat and cheese is a hearty casserole familiar from Slovak school cafeterias, where pasta bakes also come in versions with eggs, quark (a fresh curd cheese), or fruit. This version combines cooked pasta with ground pork, onions, tomatoes, and tomato paste. A mixture of milk and mayonnaise is poured over the layers, then everything is topped with hard cheese and baked at 180 °C (350 °F). This recipe serves six for dinner or Sunday lunch.

  5. Grease a baking dish and layer the chopped onions on the bottom, followed by the ground meat, vegetable mixture, grated hard cheese, and cooked pasta. Pour the sauce over everything and sprinkle with the remaining cheese.

  6. Bake in an oven preheated to 180 °C (350 °F) for just under an hour, about 50 minutes.

Tip: You can replace the mayonnaise in the sauce with the same amount of sour cream. The ground meat goes into the baking dish raw, so before serving, check that it is cooked through at the bottom and no longer pink.
