Homemade butter takes just one ingredient: a liter of heavy whipping cream with 35% milk fat. First, whip the cream with a whisk or electric mixer, then process it with an immersion blender until the buttermilk begins to separate. Save the buttermilk to use in bread dough, for example. According to the recipe, a liter of good-quality cream yields about 700 g of butter, so you know exactly what goes into it. The whole process takes about half an hour.

Instructions
Tip: tap a step to mark it as done.
Use just one ingredient to make homemade butter: heavy whipping cream.
Pour all the cream into a deep bowl and beat with a whisk or electric mixer until it forms whipped cream.
Process the whipped cream with an immersion blender, repeatedly lowering it into the cream until the buttermilk begins to separate. Save the buttermilk to use in bread dough, for example. Continue blending.
Clumps of butter will gradually form. Once the butter is firm enough, turn it out and pour off the buttermilk.
Knead the butter on a board under cold running water to remove any remaining whey. Continue until the water coming out of the butter runs clear.
Tip: Season the butter with salt or herbs to taste, if desired.
Tip: After rinsing the butter, keep pressing it against the side of the bowl with a spatula until no more water comes out. Residual water and buttermilk shorten its shelf life.
