This snowy log cabin cake is shaped like a roof: 15 rolls of tender sour cream pastry are filled with sweet or sour cherries, baked, then stacked into a pyramid and covered with sweetened sour cream.
Chocolate decorations and chopped nuts go on top. Assemble the cake directly on a serving tray and refrigerate it so the pastry can absorb the cream.

Instructions
Tip: tap a step to mark it as done.
Make the dough
Beat the butter with the sugar and egg, add the sour cream, and beat until fluffy. Combine the flour with the baking powder and a pinch of salt, then gradually add it until the dough is soft and no longer sticky. Wrap in plastic wrap and refrigerate for 40–60 minutes.
Fill the rolls
Shape the chilled dough into two logs and cut them into 15 equal pieces in total. Roll each piece into a strip of the same length. Arrange the drained sweet or sour cherries along each strip and sprinkle with sugar according to their tartness. Roll up to enclose the filling and place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
Bake
Bake the rolls at 200°C (400°F) for 15–20 minutes, then let cool.
Make the cream and decorations
Beat the sour cream with the powdered sugar and vanilla sugar. Melt the chocolate, transfer it to a piping bag, and pipe decorations onto parchment paper. Let them set.
Assemble the cabin
Place 5 rolls side by side on a serving tray and pour some of the cream over them. Continue with layers of 4, 3, and 2 rolls, adding cream to each layer, then place the last roll on top to form a roof. Pour the remaining cream over the entire cake, decorate with the chocolate, and sprinkle with nuts. Refrigerate for at least 4 hours, preferably overnight, to let the pastry absorb the cream.

Tip: Choose a serving tray in advance that will fit in the refrigerator with the assembled cake. Assemble the rolls only once they have cooled completely, as warm rolls would thin the sour cream filling.
