Chicken soup with sweet potatoes, lentils, and turmeric is a hearty, unusual soup you can make in about half an hour. First, sauté the sweet potatoes, onion, and garlic in olive oil, then briefly toast the dry red lentils with the spices before pouring in hot chicken broth. Add diced chicken breast to the soup and finish with cream. Caraway, paprika, turmeric, oregano, and coriander give it an exotic aroma, making it a welcome change from everyday meals.

Dice the sweet potatoes and onion, and finely grate the garlic. Place the vegetables in a pan, add the olive oil, and sauté for about 5 minutes, stirring constantly.
Add the dry lentils and spices, and cook for about 1 more minute, stirring constantly.
Pour in the hot broth and bring to a boil. Add the diced chicken breast, pepper, and salt.
Reduce the heat and simmer for about 15 minutes. Remove the soup from the heat, add the cream, and stir.
Serve sprinkled with chopped cilantro or parsley and chile pepper. Season with lime juice to taste, if desired.
Tip: You can replace the cream with the same amount of unsweetened coconut milk, which pairs well with the turmeric, coriander, and lime juice.
