Tuna and egg spread is a simple spread for bread made with canned tuna and three hard-boiled eggs, mashed with a fork and mixed with two tablespoons of mayonnaise, mustard, and finely chopped onion. It is ready in 30 minutes, including cooking the eggs, and one can of tuna makes 4 servings for breakfast or dinner.

Unlike tuna and chickpea spread or tuna and avocado spread, this version uses eggs as the main ingredient alongside the tuna. The tuna also sets it apart from egg spread with processed cheese.

Instructions

Tip: tap a step to mark it as done.

  1. Hard-boil the eggs

    15 min

Place the eggs in a saucepan of cold water, bring to a boil, and boil for 10 minutes until hard-boiled. Drain, cover with cold water, and peel once cool.

  2. Prepare the tuna and onion

    5 min

Drain the tuna thoroughly and flake it with a fork in a bowl. Chop the onion as finely as possible so there are no large pieces in the spread.

  3. Mix the spread

    5 min

Finely grate the eggs or mash them with a fork and add them to the tuna. Stir in the mayonnaise, mustard, onion, and lemon juice, and season with pepper. Taste before adding salt, since the tuna is already salty.

  4. Serve

Spread on bread or rolls and sprinkle with chives. Store in a sealed container in the refrigerator and eat within 2 days.

Tip: Tuna packed in water has a milder flavor and keeps the spread from being oily. For a lighter spread, replace half the mayonnaise with plain yogurt.
