This walnut pastry with cherry jam and cream liqueur is shaped into two filled rolls, similar to small strudels. The buttery dough is layered with a filling of chunky cherry jam, ground walnuts, and cream liqueur, if desired. Sprinkle generously with sugar before baking, then bake for about 30 minutes at 180 °C (350 °F). You can use sour cherries or other fruit instead of sweet cherries.

Instructions
Tip: tap a step to mark it as done.
Melt the butter, then add the milk, eggs, sugar, and flour mixed with the baking powder. Mix to form a dough. For best results, sift the flour and baking powder beforehand, along with the sugar if desired.
For the filling, mix the jam with the walnuts and add the liqueur if desired.
Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and preheat the oven to 180 °C (350 °F). Divide the dough into two equal portions and shape them into two strudels. Each half of the dough should form 4 layers with filling between them.
Sprinkle the strudels generously with sugar and bake in the preheated oven for approximately 30 minutes.
Tip: Use sour cherries or other fruit instead of sweet cherries if desired.
Tip: Let the soft dough made with melted butter firm up briefly in the refrigerator before rolling it out so it is easier to handle. The liqueur in the filling is optional; omit it if serving the pastry to children.
