Make homemade garlic powder from three large heads of garlic, without any additives or seasonings. Slice the peeled cloves evenly and dry them in the oven at 100–150 °C (212–300 °F) for two to three hours, until they snap easily. The dried garlic yields about half a jar of powder, which dissolves readily, making it useful in sauces, marinades, soups, warm salads, and omelets.

Make garlic powder at home using only dried garlic. It retains the bold flavor of fresh garlic.
Homemade garlic powder contains no unnecessary additives or seasonings. For a batch that fills about half a jar, use 3 large heads of garlic. Separate the heads into cloves, peel them, cut them into evenly thick slices, and spread them on a baking sheet.
Place the baking sheet in an oven preheated to 100–150 °C (212–300 °F) and dry the garlic until completely dry and brittle, usually 2–3 hours. Turn off the oven and let the garlic cool completely inside.
Grind the dried slices in a coffee grinder or crush them with a mortar and pestle to make garlic powder without preservatives or other additives.
Tip: Mix the finished powder with salt or onion powder made the same way, and add your favorite herbs, spices, or paprika.
Tip: Prop the oven door slightly open with a wooden spoon to let moisture escape. Check the slices regularly—if they brown, the powder will taste bitter.
