These ham and cheese puff pastry bites make three baking sheets of savory party snacks in several variations, using two packages of pastry. For the first variation, spread the pastry with ketchup, add Italian seasoning, ham, and cheese, then roll it up and cut into 1 cm slices. For the second, spread rectangles of pastry with mustard, top with bacon and cheese, and roll them around a pickle. Use smoked sausage and garlic for the other variations. Bake everything at 200 °C (400 °F) and serve at a party or with wine.

Instructions

Tip: tap a step to mark it as done.

  1. Pinwheels

Roll out the puff pastry, spread with ketchup, sprinkle with Italian seasoning, arrange the ham on top, and sprinkle with cheese. Roll it into a log and cut into 1 cm slices.

  2. Place the slices cut-side down on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake in an oven preheated to 200 °C (400 °F) until golden brown.

  3. Rolls

Cut the rolled-out puff pastry into rectangles, spread with mustard, arrange bacon slices on top, and sprinkle with cheese. Place a pickle along one edge, roll up, and bake at 200 °C (400 °F) until golden brown.

  4. Squares

Cut the rolled-out puff pastry into squares and spread with ketchup mixed with garlic. Place a slice of smoked sausage on each square, sprinkle with cheese, and bake at 200 °C (400 °F) until golden brown.

Tip: Spread only a thin layer of ketchup or mustard to keep the bottom of the pastry from getting soggy. Bake each variation on a separate baking sheet, as the thicker pickle rolls need more time than the thin pinwheels.
