Polish krówki with cocoa are homemade milk caramels that many remember as a childhood treat. They can be hard to find in stores these days, but you can make them at home with sugar, milk, butter, eggs, and a tablespoon of cocoa powder. All the ingredients are cooked together in a pot for about 20 minutes, then the mixture is poured onto plastic wrap or into molds and cut into pieces once set. Children can help with the preparation, too.

Instructions

Tip: tap a step to mark it as done.

  1. Place all the ingredients in a pot and cook for 20 minutes.

  2. Pour the cooked mixture onto plastic wrap and smooth the surface, or pour it into prepared molds.

  3. Let the mixture set, then cut it into pieces of your preferred size.

  4. Gently press the caramels out of the molds.

Tip: Whisk the eggs into the cold milk before heating the mixture; adding them to hot milk would cause them to curdle into pieces. Use a heavy, thick-bottomed pot and stir constantly, as milk and sugar burn easily.
